Sonja Souther hails from Virginia Beach. During her tenure with The Professors, Sonja worked as the Manager of Special Events and Logistics at Rutgers University. Sonja literally stepped out of the crowd to sing, extemporaneously, "Sonja's Relocation Blues;" the final number of the Cornelia Street Cafe Gig. The Manager at Cornelia Street said of Sonja's performance: "As long as you have Sonja singing with you, you guys are welcome back here any time" (true story). Clearly, a new star had been discovered. Sonja made her debut with the Professors at Napolitano's Restaurant in New Brunswick on March 28, 1999. She retired from the band in 2000 and now lives in Canada with her husband, Peter.
