Back in high school, I really liked math
And I liked the sciences too
When my school got those brand new Apple computers
I knew just what to do!
I'd found a new place to hide from the bullies
Where I could keep my lunch money too

It isn't easy being a geek
Fitting in was always so hard
Because I fall asleep after just one beer
And I can't throw a football more than a yard
It isn't easy being a geek
It isn't easy being a geek
When Stephen Hawking is your high school hero
It isn't easy being a geek

So I went to college for computer science
And kept a 4.0 GPA
My roommate kept a good girlfriend
On weekends she'd come to stay
She's roll in on a Friday night
And he'd say "See you on Monday"

It isn't easy being a geek
Nobody kept me warm in the cold
And camping out in the computer lab
After a while, that really got old
It isn't easy being a geek
It isn't easy being a geek
When your best friend's initials are IBM
It isn't easy being a geek

Now fifteen years and a few jobs later
I'm making really good pay
I've got a beautiful wife and a real nice house
And a big fat IRA
When I'm feeling down about being so square
My dear ol' wife will say
"Don't worry honey, just look at Bill Gates:
I told you geeks would rule the world one day"

Now I'm a Technical Director on a military contract
At a high-tech company
The frat boys and the jocks and the party guys
Well, guess what? They're all working for me
And I play in a band called The Professors
How about that for irony?

It's good to be a geek
Because I've embraced my inner nerd
I'm proud to say that I still can do
The New York Times Sunday crossword
Yes, it's good to be a geek
Oh, it's good to be a geek
When you're security clearance is approved in a week
It's good to be a geek
